Polash Larsen is a Bengali-Australian songwriter, singer and guitarist who works primarily in roots genres. In 2014 he founded comedy funk band The Offtopics and has released two EPs and three singles with future releases planned for the group. In 2019 Polash took part in Multicultural Arts Victoria’s inaugural ‘Project REWIRE’ professional development for mid-career musicians sparking a series of collaborations with peer artists including running a series of song-writing workshops around the immersion composition methods associated with “The 20 Song Game”. During the 2020 lockdown he recorded his first solo EP ‘Polash From The Garden’ and made a series of lyrics videos featuring shadow puppetry to accompany the releases. The EP was launched in early 2021 and has enjoyed consistent airplay around the country. Polash is currently working with legendary senior dramatist John Bolton on a one-man stories and songs show with the working title “Comfort Music”. This work explores Polash’s music practice while presenting the story of his Australian father meeting his Bengali mother in 1960s New Delhi. With the easing of Covid restrictions in Australia and abroad, Polash has recently returned from a whistlestop tour of Mumbai and Goa with The Offtopics.
