Led by titular bassist James Lockwood, the JL Trio draws on a diverse selection of music from the Bebop tradition, reflecting Lockwood’s deep love for the music of Bud Powell, John Lewis, Charlie Parker, and Barry Harris. Featuring three of Melbourne’s most singular young musicians in the timeless piano trio format, the JL Trio presents each member as a distinct musical voice within the ensemble, placing an emphasis on spirited improvisations inspired by the best of the Bebop tradition.
