Adam Rudegeair

Adam Rudegeair is a prolific composer, performer, and educator based in Melbourne. His music is rooted in jazz and funk, with significant influences from the sounds of New Orleans, Minneapolis, and avant-garde groove musicians such as Sun Ra and Medeski Martin & Wood. Adam's current projects include Lake Minnetonka, The Bowie Project, and the ongoing collaboration with jazz legend Bob Sedergreen ‘Bourbon Street to Brunswick Street’. He enjoys perfoming tunes by his favourite jazz composer Thelonious Monk, as well as film and TV music, and songs by Prince and Bowie.


Adam is an in-demand sideman and session player and has recently performed and/or recorded with Margret RoadKnight, Fem Belling, Mo’ Sco, Brian El Dorado and the Tuesday People. Adam has made several trips to Minneapolis to record with notable musicians including St Paul Peterson (The Time), Dr Fink (Prince and the Revolution), Eric Leeds (Prince, D’Angelo), and Sonny Thompson (The New Power Generation).


Adam’s discography includes the following: Transmogrify (2004), Bayou Tapestry (2011), Bourbon St to Brunswick St (2015), and The Bowie Project (2015), Melbourneapolis (by Lake Minnetonka), an original score to the Cinema Viscera feature film Trench, and The Bowie Project 2: It’s Always Time. In 2020, Adam completed four albums and the soundtrack to the local independent feature film Apparitions.


Since November 2008 Adam has presented the weekly program Black Wax on PBS 106.7fm.


Adam is dedicated to jazz education, and taught piano to Paul Kelly in the lead-up to Paul’s 2017 album ‘Life is Fine’. He currently teaches piano both privately and at Collarts. Adam is completing his Masters in Contemporary Music Practice at Box Hill Institute.
